Yes, we were quite successful (though as you wrote often happens, we lost in our championship game). I think the highlight of my season was the endurance and grit my players brought to each game. My team only had 8 players, and often we had games with fewer! So I remember my players really digging deep to win games.
"A coach’s superpower is the ability to quickly recognize the positives and growth throughout the season and use them as your guide in the moments, days, and weeks that follow." Well said. Critically important skill.
Thanks, as always, for reading. Appreciate the excitement you bring to coaching, but also really appreciate the conversations we've had over the last few years!
Coach, great post. I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment of your text to your assistants.
Question: have you mixed in any step up ball screens with your flare screens against zone? Same sequence of passes + screens, just slightly different positioning on the catch + timing.
A little bit. I've talked (and will talk to) some other coaches about it, but really have dedicated a lot of time to in practices. Do you have some clips?
Thanks William for this great post. Just finished my basketball coaching season, and your words definitely resonated!
Thank you for the kind words ... hope your season went well. What was the highlight for you?

Likewise for sure. I've really appreciated your hospitality and sharing of wisdom. Maybe someday I'll even figure out how to win a game against you!

Don’t have video (JV) and forget where I saw it first, but here’s a sketch: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11Jo81SdUptWnfIqADAdTe3dzpmRbGm_BNoc_Z9c5dyg/edit
Sometimes we run this as a set play, but I also tell 5 they can set this screen anytime they want
Love it. Thank you for sharing!
Also, I lived for a summer in Coeur d’Alene. Idaho panhandle is such a beautiful part of the US!
No doubt! I'm fortunate that I can do what I do here. Looking forward to some summer days flyfishing on the Coeur d'Alene & St. Joe rivers!
