🤔 Thought Starter from Juanma Lillo
But more than moves, you establish a series of relationships through repetition. You try to create a situation in which the players are conscious of their options. The move is not always the same, the opponent changes.
You need to recognize what you are faced with before you can judge which tool to use.

🎥 Curry-Draymond 2v1 SSG
Here’s a small-sided game we used recently to work on 2-man actions that was shared from James Anderson at Lake City High School. We’ve run something similar in the past, but when we used the terminology “Curry-Draymond,” the players seemed to understand the point of the drill better.
In this case, the emphasis for our girls was playing out of a Get. We didn’t teach anything specific, we just let the players explore. Something to consider when first using this with young players is giving the defender 2 to 3 defensive coverages to go through in a random sequence.
This video includes some clips showing how it transferred to the game. Here’s some details on the drill …
The "Curry" player is guarded and looks to play off the "Draymond" player after making the pass. The "Curry" player is the only player that can shoot.
The Draymond player is allowed to pass & set screens. Constraints for this player can be tight or loose based on what you are working on.
Scoring: Both offensive players receive the value of the made shot. Defense gets points for a stop, steal, or deflection.
We rotated the players on each possession, but you might let the player stay in the Curry role on each score.
⛹️♀️ Defending the Dribble Drive
I had the opportunity to interview Kurt Guelsdorf this summer. I learned so much in that hour.
If you are familiar with Guelsdorf then you know he is a Dribble Drive guru. One of the questions I asked him in our discussion is what defenses do Dribble Drive coaches struggle with. He gave me two.
The Sag & Switch
“5” - This one is a little less obvious than the sag and switch, but given the right matchup could provide some issues for a dribble-drive offense. “Hug your (man), and dare people to go 1-on-1,” Guelsdorf said.
Sound interesting? The video includes all of Coach G’s response to the question.
🎼 The Playlist: Ch-Check it Out
Here’s a Beastie Boys’ classic. Ch-Check it Out was the first single from their 2004 album, “To the 5 Boroughs.” It harkened back to their earlier music, and it can be heard regularly during our practices.
If you have not seen their performance of this song on “The Late Show with David Letterman” then you should ch-check it out.
